Precipitation Appreciation

Precipitation Appreciation

The pH Factor Big Band has been in the studio for the last few days recording the compositions of Mat Montgomery and Dapper Page Music. “Precipitation Appreciation” is a sample of what we’ve been working on for the last several years with the band. Mat is an amazing composer with an incredibly unique style which utilizes many different timbral specialties of each instrument. His compositions are idiomatic for each instrument, without being over-the-top and overly instrumental.

Precipitation Appreciation

This composition is part of the Beauty of the Rain Suite which features several other compositions in a modern jazz paradigm. Shifting between rock and roll, aleatoric sounds, burning swing, and everything in between.

This track features numerous soloists including myself (with some creative editing), as well as Mat Montgomery on trumpet, and Jamie Paulson on trombone.

Performances of the pH Factor

You can find the pH Factor led by Paul Harshman on the third Monday of every month at Tula’s Restaurant and Jazz Club. Usually we feature a jazz ensemble from a local school as an opening act, many of these schools have amazing programs, so come check it out!

For more updates, check out the pH Factor on Facebook.
